Improve loop UX by self-remediating technical blockers #67

Goal

Correct the shared development workflow so /loop and its implementation/review/remediation procedures diagnose and autonomously remediate ordinary technical execution and reviewer-environment blockers before escalating to the owner.

Why

A reviewer/tool/environment limitation is not itself an owner decision. Requiring owner intervention when safe, reversible execution alternatives are available wastes attention and can prevent an exact independent review without improving security or acceptance.

Scope

Update repository-local shared commands/rules for /loop, /implement-issue, /review-pr, /finish-pr, and pr-reviewer consistently. Define engineering/execution blockers versus genuine owner decisions; bounded diagnosis and materially changed retry strategy; secret-safe sanitized environments; public pinned-source verification; reviewer infrastructure failure versus findings/disagreement; durable review-ordinal accounting; explicit STOP_AND_ASK and BLOCKED contracts. Preserve bounded work, independent exact-HEAD review, validation, security/isolation, scope/authority and existing loop merge gates. Permit a one-time owner-authorized isolated worktree when needed to keep another checkout untouched, while preserving the default single-checkout workflow.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Class-A execution/reviewer infrastructure blockers cause diagnose-and-remediate attempts using the smallest sufficient authorized mechanism before owner escalation; no identical blind retry, weakened checks, repeated ordinal loss, self-review or implementer evidence substituted for independent public-source inspection.
  • Class-B authority, architecture, security, scope, cost, destructive and other owner-controlled decisions retain STOP_AND_ASK with the exact decision, rationale, considered autonomous alternatives and smallest distinct choice set recorded durably.
  • BLOCKED is limited to exhausted authorized technical paths/external conditions or genuine owner decisions, and reports exact missing capability without artificial questions.
  • Secret-safe reviewer/test environment guidance explicitly excludes ambient credentials and credential mounts, uses deliberate synthetic values, and never prints secret values.
  • /loop, implementation, review, finish/remediation commands, rules, reviewer agent and relevant repository docs agree; existing budget, exact-head, authority, merge and validation gates are not weakened.
  • Run focused workflow contract tests, make check, and make package-check; inspect full develop delta and whitespace.

Constraints

Workflow/UX-only; no product runtime or architecture changes, persistent service, new product dependency, broader permissions/network/secrets access, or unapproved external effects. Use a one-time isolated worktree only to protect an already-active checkout; ordinary repository workflow remains as documented otherwise.

Non-Goals

No release, deployment, main promotion or new live/product execution authority.

PR #68 has two whole-PR review attempts recorded, both COMMENT with no findings. Attempt 1 could not read the sibling worktree due the reviewer external-directory deny; scoped read-only path support was added in commit 2eb6e402c346c3eeb8554797468700cf7bd6c2ef. Attempt 2 then encountered the global Kilo bash: deny on required checkout verification, before inspecting source or running checks. Repository-local agent permissions cannot override that global restriction. PR remains open/unmerged; no approval is claimed. Sanitized make check and make package-check pass locally, but do not replace independent review.

Fresh integrated acceptance review found two current workflow inconsistencies, so closure is not yet claimed despite owner-merged PR #68. Scoped normal remediation is PR #77: #77

Mutation/credential/shell denials and historical branches/merge remain untouched. Parent full gates:1397 tests+81 subtests PASS,53 optional native-verification skips; package/audit/diff passed.
Preserved delivery counter: historical1/2 COMMENT,3 cancelled without verdict,4 integrated REQUEST_CHANGES; next fresh whole-PR review ordinal5/10. Runtime validation hook's No context found for instance was diagnosed separately from syntax (existing locked safe YAML parser passed); no global config/reload/native-permission proof claimed. Same invocation; issue open.

PR #77 exact HEAD dcf91f624b334841594d7715553634cd3ec14f1f / base 56a95aaccb3286022ff56c650efceb41e73cdbdb is independently APPROVE/findings[] at preserved review ordinal6/10. Reviewer assessed the complete remediation delta and current #67 workflow acceptance, reran full check/package gates (1397+81;53 optional verification-only skips) and independently checked clean checkout/canonical refs.
Ordinal5 native review remained COMMENT/incomplete because observed host-global bash: deny rejected even the corrected repository allowlist. Materially different authorized fresh read-only equivalent path, same inherited binding, completed ordinal6; no global permission changes, self-review, resumed reviewer or criteria weakening. Native loaded permissions/reload and autonomous runtime execution are not claimed.
Fresh issue/PR subjects unchanged; exact-head CI2383 SUCCESS. Existing loop now proceeds through supported normal merge and integrated acceptance before issue closure.

Completed issue #67 through original owner-merged PR #68 plus scoped remediation PR #77: #77

Verified new normal merge 19775b9679cf04f071e4fe5f2542fe230272ea36 has exact parents base 56a95aaccb3286022ff56c650efceb41e73cdbdb and independently approved HEAD dcf91f624b334841594d7715553634cd3ec14f1f; integrated tree equals approved 50072e7804f9e24f49774dda48390661bb2ea099. Original merge 64c432957e19bd3bba7693ed0ad1002a764fcf39, its exact original parents/HEAD/tree and ancestor relationship remain verified and untouched.

Final independent whole-PR ordinal6 APPROVE/findings[] assessed all current #67 acceptance criteria. Counter preserves historical1/2 infrastructure COMMENT,3 cancelled without verdict,4 integrated findings,5 native global-Bash denial; no reset, resumed reviewer, parent self-review or desired-verdict relaying. The changed authorized equivalent path retained exact subjects, read-only independence and inherited binding. Global bash: deny remains unchanged; source path correction is not a claim that host-global policy was overridden.

Integrated closed-environment uv sync --locked and make check package-check audit && git diff --check passed:1397 tests+81 subtests,53 optional verification-only native skips; formatting/lint/types/inward imports/secrets/reproducible package/isolated installation/intake/source smoke/audit passed. Focused workflow16+81 passed. Exact-head CI2383 and integrated CI2384 SUCCESS.

Commands/rules/agent/docs now agree on Class-A self-remediation, Class-B durable decisions, finite blockers/reviews, exact-head/security/merge gates, both documented checkout forms and inherited reviewer binding. No broader shell/credential/global settings, product authority, runtime executor proof, native reload, live inference, main, release or deployment claim. Actual canonical closure follows verified integration and all six bounded workflow acceptance criteria; same loop continues fresh full SELECT.
